About artist
Eash Abdul-Matheen is a 23 year old painter from London. Although Eash chose to pursue a professional career in medicine, and is currently in medical school, she has been painting for over 10 years. Much of these years were spent practising realism and exploring different mediums such as Acrylic, pastels, watercolour, pencil and ink. Eash has the most experience with Acrylics, however, in early 2019 she began painting with oil paints and has been using it as her main medium since.
Eash's first inspiration for art came from Disney and Pixar and began drawing popular characters such as Nemo and The Little Mermaid, amongst many others. When she went to secondary school and took basic art classes, she learnt how to bring dimension into her characters and was drawn towards portrait painting with Acrylics.
In 2018, the artist felt that portraits were limiting her artistic abilities and wanted to dive into abstract art and painting landscapes. Eash took an interest in painting buildings with a different medium this time - watercolours. The artist enjoys challenging herself and working on mediums which she feels she is weak at, and watercolours was the perfect opportunity for her to develop as an artist. Her main inspiration for painting buildings was the city of London and it's beautiful architecture. The fine detail of the architecture naturally lead her to find a fascination in Line art as well as Ink.
2019 was the year in which Eash had felt she needed a new challenge, and this time it would be the 'master's medium' - oil paints. The artist fell in love with the texture, the fluidity and the pigment of oil. She feels that it is unlike any other medium she has worked with and finds it the most enjoyable medium to paint with, and has stuck with it since.
Eash's work in the current day is usually painted with a cool tone background and a warm subject, usually a hand. The artist enjoys painting hands as they give a subtle expression to a painting, that a portrait would not give, and can covey such emotion. Eash feels that since there is no face to the painting, it gives more room to elicit an emotional response from the painting. Additionally, she paints landscapes, specifically of the ocean and sunsets.
